Manchester is one of the easier UK cities to get a permanent bracelet in, which is not something you can say about every city outside London. There are welding appointments in the city centre, at Selfridges and out at the Trafford Centre, plus an independent studio in Kampus doing it properly with a drink in your hand. There is also one notable gap, which is worth knowing before you plan a trip.

Where to get a permanent bracelet in Manchester
Astrid & Miyu, three locations
Astrid & Miyu are the most visible name in UK welded jewellery and they have Manchester covered three times over. Permanent jewellery is listed as an in-store service at the city centre boutique on 18 Market Street, at the Selfridges concession in Exchange Square, and at Selfridges in the Trafford Centre.
Bracelets start at £80, rings at £35 and anklets at £220, with charms from £40 on top. Repairs are covered for the first year, and after that a broken chain is £30 to re-weld. They do not refund permanent jewellery, since each piece is measured and made to your wrist. Appointments are booked online.
Aureli, Kampus
Aureli run a dedicated permanent jewellery studio at The Makers Quarter in Kampus, 42 Aytoun Street, having moved there from Chapel Street. They weld in 14ct gold filled and sterling silver, and the booking is structured as a package rather than a chain price: a 15 minute appointment starts at £15 with a £10 deposit that comes off the bill, and a package for two is £100, which covers a piece each, a charm each and a glass of prosecco each.
If you want the appointment to be the outing rather than a quick errand, this is the one to look at. They also run a charm bar, so you can keep adding to the piece later.
IMALAH, Stockport
Just outside the city, IMALAH offer permanent jewellery by appointment in Stockport and take their welding kit to events. They do not publish a price for it online, so you will need to ask when you book. Worth a look if you are south of the centre and would rather not go into town.
One gap worth knowing about
H.Samuel run a permanent bracelet service and it is one of the cheapest in the country, with chains from £40 and no separate welding fee. It is not available in Manchester. The service runs at seven stores: Bluewater, Thurrock, Gateshead, Liverpool One, Oxford Circus, Birmingham Bullring and Meadowhall. Liverpool One is the nearest, which is a train ride rather than a walk. The Manchester Arndale and Trafford Park branches sell jewellery but do not weld it on.

What a Manchester appointment actually involves
The process is much the same wherever you book it, and it is quicker than most people expect.
- You pick a chain. Metal first, then style. This is where most of the price is decided.
- It is measured on your wrist. Sized with a little slack so it moves but does not catch.
- The ends are fused. A short pulse from a micro welder joins the two ends. There is no clasp afterwards.
- You leave wearing it. No setting time, no aftercare beyond ordinary sense.
Budget 15 to 30 minutes. Most studios will do two weldings in one slot, so a pair of you can book together rather than separately. Bring the person you are getting it with, because almost nobody does this alone.

Two things to hold in mind. Those are prices per bracelet, and this is almost always a two person purchase, so double them. And the quoted price is the starting price: charms are chosen in the appointment, they start at £30 to £40, and they are the usual reason the final bill does not match the number you had in your head on the way in.
The at-home alternative: £39.99 for two

Book a Manchester studio if you want solid gold, if you want charms, or if the appointment itself is the point. Plenty of people book one as the thing they do together on an anniversary, and an hour in Kampus with a drink is a perfectly good reason to spend £100.
